Our favourite garlic variety!  Rocamboles are known to be favoured by chefs.  Strong, but not overwhelming flavour, not too spicy.  We have found this variety stores quite well and  is incredibly easy to peel. Each bulb produces between 6 & 8 good sized cloves

The advantage to bulbils are that you can bulk up garlic at a cheaper price than purchasing garlic bulbs.

Bulbils can be planted in the spring.  That fall, dig up your bulbils in August, cure them & replant your best looking ones when you would normally plant garlic - in October or November.  The following year they should produce "rounds" by the end of summer. Do the same for these as you did the first year.  In year 3 your harvest should result in a small bulb.  Split the bulb & replant to keep going with your own garlic stock.  Rocambole bulbils start larger than other families of garlic, so you will end up with larger garlic bulbs sooner than other varieties.
