This heirloom variety arrived in North America in 1799. It is a butterhead-type lettuce with appealing maroon-speckled green leaves. At maturity, a loosely packed 6-7" head will produce juicy, tasty leaves. It is slow to bolt and also does well in cooler temperatures. Butterhead type.
